If you are considering raising shrimp from eggs, and you are reading my web page, you are out of luck. This is a very technically difficult chore, and not many places do it in the US. I order my shrimp as Post Larvae (PL).
I have ordered PL shrimp from two different places, and have been satisfied with both:
PL shrimp are very small, almost mosquito larvae-like shrimp. This is the best size to buy them because they are cheaper than 30/60/90 day old shrimp, and they are much easier/cheaper to ship. I put PL shrimp into my ponds, and I've put 30 day old shrimp into my ponds, and saw virually no difference in size at harvest time. This does not make sense, but it is true! I have not decided for sure, but I may just skip the nursery phase from now on. You must really make sure aquatic pests under control before you release the smaller shrimp into your ponds.
